Welcome to Belfast
Belfast (Béal Feirste) is the largest urban area in Ulster, and the second largest city in Ireland. Following the disruption and conflict caused during the troubles, the city has since grown and prosperred.
The area of Belfast has been occupied since the Bronze Age and was granted city status in 1888. Belfast has two castles, one in the city centre on Castle street and Carrickfergus Castle which is larger and located to the north of the city.
Belfast is surrounded to the north by a series of hills, to the west by Belfast Lough at the mouth of the River Lagan. The Titanic was built in Belfast in 1912.
