FERMOY TOWN COUNCILLORS WON’T TAKE ABOLITION PLANS LYING DOWN
They’re not going down without a fight! It was agreed at a special meeting of Fermoy Town Council convened on Tuesday night last to invite the area TDs and Seanad member to a meeting, to discuss and make a case for the town council to be retained, put forward.
The feeling was, that while Minister Hogan declared his intention to abolish the country’s 80 town councils, there’s been no cut in the number of TDs or mention of the abolition of the Seanad as was previously signalled by Fine Gael.
“They went for the softest underbelly,” is how Mayor Michael Hanley put it.
