FERMOY WELFARE HOME BOMBSHELL
In a development that this week comes as somewhat of a bombshell to locals fighting to save the welfare home in Fermoy, Minister Sean Sherlock says that a meeting with the Minister for Health Dr James Reilly to discuss the future of the facility, while welcome, would not save the home if the Health Information and Quality Authority’s (HIQA) report finds that it’s not up to standard.
“We must be honest with the people of Fermoy, there are issues with the welfare home from HIQA’s perspective. As the minister for this constituency, I have to take the responsible line and that is what I am doing.
"I have asked the HSE to assess the viability of the welfare home, and, if the HSE decide with HIQA that it doesn’t meet the qualifying criteria, then we must make sure that the patients and staff do not lose their entitlements and that all their rights are upheld,” Minister Sherlock told The Avondhu.
