GAME ON AS FERMOY G.A.A. HOSTS CORK AND CLARE FOR LIGHTS LAUNCH
Fermoy GAA officials will readily agree that the fog which descended over the town on February 6, and forced the cancellation of an eagerly awaited challenge game between Cork and Clare hurlers, cost the club a fair few bob.
That game had been arranged to coincide with the switching on of the magnificent new floodlighting system but the weather took a firm hand and the best laid plans were, so to speak, sidelined!
There is, however, a silver lining to this particular cloud as both Cork and Clare are planning to field much-strengthened teams for the re–fixture on this Saturday, March 6.
The switching on ceremony will take place at 7pm when the chairman of the Munster Council, Lismore’s Jimmy O’Gorman, will officially turn on the new floodlights in Fitzgerald Park, and the game itself is due to begin at 7.30pm
CHELTENHAM PREVIEW
Another big night is in store for busy club officers and members when Fermoy GAA will hold yet another Cheltenham preview night on Tuesday next, March 9 at the usual venue at 8pm.
The event will feature a top class field with leading trainers Paul Nicholls and Paul Nolan, top jump jockeys, Ruby Walsh and Davy Russell, as well as leading racing correspondent with the Irish Examiner, Pat Keane.
Kevin Ryan of ‘At the Races’ fame, and Leon Blanche of Boylesports will also add their expertise to the proceedings.
If you cannot get a few good tips from that line out then we are all in trouble!
