Kelly charms the nation on Late Late Show
Fermoy woman Kelly McDonagh Mongan charmed Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy - and the nation - when she appeared on RTE's most high profile television show last Friday night. That said, she was very nearly upstaged by her two-week old baby son Bernie who captured Ryan's heart.
The chatshow host held the baby throughout his interview with Kelly after he was brought to him onstage by Kelly's husband. Kelly explained to Ryan that the baby was named Michael Bernard but it was shortened to Bernie after his Dad. In case any subsequent children they have are girls, he is at least guaranteed to have one child named after him, she told him! Baby Bernie was dressed up for the occasion in a custom-made suit which was much admired by Ryan.
Just a fortnight after the birth, Kelly looked fabulous, resplendent in a shimmering light blue satin ruched dress and high heels. She spoke to Ryan about the experience of going through the finals of The Voice competition while heavily pregnant. She also revealed that she'd recently received an award for her singing ability from the Traveller community.
There was more to come - her young brother Paddy also got a chance to shine. Ryan spoke with him and invited him to sing and did so - wowing the audience and viewers with his rendition of 'The Water is Wide', watched by his proud parents and sister from the audience.
Kelly was then asked to perform and she repeated a song she'd sung in The Voice, Elton John's 'Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word.' It was a great opportunity for the young Fermoy woman to once again showcase her singing talent.
