NARROW ESCAPE FOR PREGNANT WOMAN AND CHILDREN
A heavily pregnant woman and her two young children miraculously escaped serious injury last Monday as the car they travelled in overturned and skidded a number of metres along a busy road before hitting a tree.
The impact with the tree caused the car to spin wildly on the road before it come to rest.
Units of the Fermoy Fire Brigade were joined by three ambulances at the scene of the major road traffic accident on the old N8 route between Fermoy and Watergrasshill.
Remarkably neither the pregnant woman, who was driving the car at the time, nor her children, aged 6 and 18 months, received any major injuries but were brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where they were treated for minor cuts and bruises.
A Fermoy Fire Brigade spokesman told The Avondhu that the car was ‘a complete write off’ after the incident, adding that it was major good fortune that no serious injuries were suffered.
