PARKING REFUND PLAN TO BE LAUNCHED NEXT WEEK
Fermoy’s new parking initiative will be officially launched next week as local retailers hope to encourage customers to shop local.
The initiative will see participating retailers refunding shoppers an hour’s parking charge should they spend €20 or more in their store, with the town’s parking meters to issue new tickets with refund vouchers to enable the scheme.
While it remains to be seen whether or not Fermoy’s parking meters will be adapted in time for the start of the new scheme, Fermoy town councillor, Peter Merrigan, who has spearheaded the campaign, is adamant that the initiative goes ahead as planned on Thursday, April 2.
“If the pay parking machines cannot be upgraded then the customer should simply present the last parking stub they purchased to obtain the refund,” Cllr Merrigan said.
