Party atmosphere at Toss Bryan's 60th anniversary bash
Management and staff at Toss Bryan's in Fermoy marked their 60th anniversary last Saturday with a party that attracted upwards of 4,000 people.
Not an organization to do things by half, the public were treated to a barbecue, all day bouncy castle, face painting, stilt walkers, a DJ (Ian O'Brien) and a guest appearance from the Dulux dog. This very well organized 'all in' package was laid on free of charge.
A runaway success from a public relations perspective, the party was an opportunity for Tom and Lourde to give something back to customers who've helped sustain their business for the last 6 decades. The man whose name has become synonymous with the ever-growing store, Toss Bryan, was also present to lend his support, as well as unveil a very attractive portrait of himself and his late wife, Kitty (specially commissioned by local artist, Maria Dowling). Now in his 86th year, Toss is understandably proud of how the business he set up all those years ago has evolved into the thriving retail hub it is today.
Tom is as 'hands on' as his father was, and this, allied to the first class service customers receive, has ensured the store is more than holding its own an ultra competitive market. Never one to stand still, Tom is always in pursuit of the next sale and a variety of promotions and special offers helps keep patrons coming through the doors. As the person who oversees the company's recruitment policy, Tom can take credit for assembling a team of dedicated professionals who always give 100% - motivated and enthusiastic they've been critical to the store's ongoing success.
Multi national competition, pressure on customers' budgets and the rise of on-line shopping are all challenges that are being met head on by a business that has strong personal ties with the town and surrounding areas. Drawing on the experience of those who've gone before them, Tom Bryan as his workforce are plotting a course that will keep them at the centre of commercial activity in Fermoy for many years to come.
