RIVER BASED ACTIVITIES A MAJOR BOOST FOR FERMOY
‘Messing about on the river’ took on a whole new connotation for the hard pressed business community in Fermoy last weekend as not one but two events centred around the famous Blackwater gave a boost to the town.
The Fermoy River Festival on Saturday last proved to be an ideal and very appropriate forerunner to the annual Regatta, which was once again a major success for Fermoy Rowing Club, when hundreds of people flocked into the town on Sunday.
Both events will not only have further increased the profile of the town but also given a nice cash injection to businesses struggling to stay afloat in the worst of recessions.
Fermoy has been hit by further business closures over the recent past so initiatives like the River Festival and annual events such as the regatta are like manna from heaven. The business association has plans for more festival type events in the months ahead.
