TOWN COUNCILLORS SEEK MEETING WITH I.D.A.
Fermoy town councilors are to seek a meeting with the IDA in relation to the ongoing promotion of the town as a centre for industrial investment.
“The IDA has to give an appraisal of what specifically they are doing to promote Fermoy. It is important that we meet with them periodically to keep up to date with any new developments,” Cllr. Tadhg O’Donovan told this week’s meeting of Fermoy Town Council.
The meeting further learned that reassurances are there from the IDA that Fermoy is being promoted all the time. However, it was claimed that these reassurance don’t usually come with any proof that it is actually the case.
Cllr Michael Hanley was in favour of meeting with an IDA representative, but emphasised that, “The IDA is doing the very best against ridiculous odds” and that “Fermoy needs to look at other sectors as well, not only manufacturing, to sustain itself”.
On a positive note, Sinn Fein Cllr. Seamus Coleman pointed out that Fermoy’s proximity to Cork, should work to its advantage, but that he would like to see a strengthening in the working relationship between IDA and the council.
