Watergrasshill Athletic Club - up and running
Going from informal recreational gathering to fully fledged club is always a big step, however, that's exactly what running enthusiasts in Watergrasshill have done.
Watergrasshill Athletics Club is up and running and the official launch took place in The Fir Tree, Watergrasshill last Saturday night. The bulk of the club's 75 members were in attendance with a healthy 50/50 gender balance. The mood was decidedly upbeat as Cork County Athletics Board chairman, Paddy Buckley, lent his imprimatur to proceedings.
"The affiliation of a new club is always a major event and I'm delighted to see the enthusiasm of everyone concerned with Watergrasshill Athletics Club, I want to wish members the very best and can assure them that the board will do whatever it can to assist them along the way", Paddy said.
There was also good wished from board secretary, Mary Meagher and board treasurer, Pat Walsh.
The recently elected club officers are: Dave Murphy (chairman), James Forest (secretary), Colette O'Donoghue (treasurer) and PRO Kevin Nash. The club's official colours are orange and black. The club has 3 tiers of athlete, beginners, intermediate and advanced. New members are always welcome - the club's main sponsor is The Edge sports shop. Any other individual or business interested in assisting the fledgling club is welcome to do so.
Formalities were kept to a minimum last Saturday night as the attention of members quickly turned to socializing in their comfortable surroundings.
