Work finally starts on Crann Ard estate in Fermoy
There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel for the tenants who are awaiting their houses in the Crann Ard estate in Fermoy, as construction work began this week.
Residents and councillors alike had been taking each promise of work with a pinch of salt, as promise after promise fell through, so when the date was set for May 28 for works to begin, hopes were not high and residents were with Cllr Noel McCarthy when he said that he wouldn't believe it until he physically saw contractors on site.
Now that day has finally arrived and while the work did not start as promised on May 28, workers from Dilworth Construction in Blarney began working on the site on Tuesday of this week. Hopefully now, the 13 families who were promised houses almost two years ago will be a step nearer to finally getting the keys to their homes.
"Myself and Tadhg (O'Donovan) have worked hard to achieve this and at long last, the tenants waiting for houses have a bit of good news. Works should be completed in the next six weeks and the tenants will hopefully be given a date to move in," Cllr McCarthy said.
He added that he feels the emotionally strong deputation which he brought to his fellow councillors, helped to strengthen where the tenants were coming from and the daily turmoil they were going through as they waited for their long promised homes.
