77 year old Mitchelstown man fears he will die without home help!
A 77 year old man whose home help was withdrawn from him, fears he will die if he is left without some form of help.
Edmund Boland of Corrogurm, Mitchelstown returned home to Ireland about 12 years ago. He told The Avondhu this week that his home help assistance was withdrawn and that the HSE offered him boxes of food for a six month period which he refused to accept.
"I have not had a wash since the 2nd March and I feel filthy. My bed wasn't changes since that time and because I now have no fire, my room is freezing," said Mr Boland who suffers from severe arthritis.
"I keep my door locked all the time as I am frightened being alone," he said.
When asked by The Avondhu if he had a panic alarm, he said he got rid of it when the phone line broke down for a week or more, some time ago. When advised that he should have one for his own peace of mind, Mr Boland seemed unwilling to take such advice, stressing that what he needed was someone to help him with his meals and to get the fire ready.
"I am very weak now and have very little food left in the fridge. I feel I will die if someone doesn't help," he said.
