AMBITIOUS VILLAGE PARK PROJECT TAKES SHAPE IN BALLYLANDERS
Construction work on the Ballylanders village park is progressing at pace with an official opening planned for Spring 2011. The park will include a children’s playground, an area for teenagers and a bandstand. “The work is going well and phase one will be completed on time,” Mairead Hayes told The Avondhu.
The foundations for the toilet block are now in place and the area for the children’s playground is almost ready.
“We are all delighted with the way the park is developing, the bandstand is going to be a very welcome attraction and there are also plans for a picnic area. The park is going to be a very welcome addition to our village,” Mairead continued.
Fundraising for the project continues with a very novel idea for people to sponsor some of the amenities at the park.
“For example, you might want to sponsor a shrub for €10 or a tree for €195. Groups or companies can also sponsor a litter bin for €400 and there are many other ways of helping the park along,” Mairead said.
As part of the fundraising effort there will be a dance at The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown with Wallstreet providing the music on Friday, November 26. The dance gets underway at 10pm and tickets cost €10.
There will also be a Christmas festival in Ballylanders on Sunday, December 5, and if anyone would like to take a stall they should contact Juliette McSweeney on 087-6894410.
