CARRAIGROE THE BIG WINNERS IN MITCHELSTOWN ENHANCEMENT AWARDS
Carraigroe is the pride of Mitchelstown following its win in this year’s Mitchelstown Enhancement Awards, held in The Firgrove Hotel last Tuesday night, October 21.
The Amalgamated Residents of Mitchelstown Association (AROMA) declared Carraigroe the big winners, with Railway Road and Ballinwillin Close in joint third – and Ailsbury Court runners-up in second place. Best new entry was this year awarded to Robert Street.
Kay Dawson of AROMA congratulated all involved, thanking all the residential areas and encouraging those who missed out on this year’s prizes by reminding them that any increase in their overall grade reflects a job well done.
“The only way a town moves forward is with community spirit and Mitchelstown is rich in it,” she added. The evening’s proceedings began with a presentation on biodiversity and ideas to boost the town’s appearance from the Wildlife Service’s district officer, Cyril Saich.
Mr Saich’s hour long presentation and question and answer session revealed much about the local wildlife – and he highlighted how even the much maligned growth at the approach roundabouts to the town can be used positively.
The evening concluded with the awards, and a far-reaching discussion on tips and ideas for Mitchelstown residents for the winter ahead, such as taking in hanging baskets that will look unsightly in the coming months.
