DEREK DAVIS IN TOWN FOR BALLINWILLIN LAUNCH
The wine flowed freely when Pat and Miriam Mulcahy of Ballinwillin House, Mitchelstown threw open the doors of their edge of town facility to RTE personality, Derek Davis, members of the media and invited guests on Thursday night of last week.
The occasion was a launch party hosted by special events organiser, Jacqueline Mullen to highlight the facilities available at Ballinwillin House which is located right on the fringe of Mitchelstown.
Set on 80 acres of farmland with the Galtees in the background, the facility which boasts courtyard accommodation, its own herd of pedigree cattle, wild boar, pure bred pigs and a herd of deer, is now being promoted for overnight stays, farm and school tours, Christmas parties and as a ‘unique dining experience’.
The Earl of Kingston built this 18th century country house in 1777 for the famed agriculturalist, Arthur Young.
As guests mingled to taste the beautiful food on offer on Thursday night last, they were also plied with Hungarian wine from Pat Mulcahy’s own winery in Hungary. There was a delightful musical interlude and Pat Mulcahy himself even joined in the spirit of the occasion with an appropriate offering.
The assembled guests enjoyed all of this in the wine cellar at Ballinwillin and heard Derek Davis express the view that he had, “rarely enjoyed such a pleasant experience.”
A renowned connoisseur of good food and wine, Davis certainly seemed to be savouring the experience on a beautiful summer’s evening with the Galtee Mountains in the background.
Tom Hartnett and the crew from Tipperary Mid West Radio were there as were Burncourt publicans, Willie and Dodo Mulcahy, Kilcoran Lodge receptionist, Laura Barrett and PJ and Kathleen Hennessy of Skeheenarinky.
All seemed suitably impressed and Pat and Miriam Mulcahy were certainly pleased with the turn out as was Jackie Mullen who expressed the view that it was “Upwards and onwards” for Ballinwillin House from here on.
