HEART-RENDING SCENES AS SARAH IS LAID TO REST
Mourners described the scene as ‘heartbreaking’ as neighbours, friends and family packed the Church of the Assumption in Ballyporeen for the funeral Mass of Sarah Kennedy last weekend.
The 19-year-old girl from Skeheenarinky was killed when her car was in collision with another vehicle on the Cahir to Clonmel road at Rathmore on Thursday morning, January 21.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident received minor injuries and was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel.
SOMBRE MOOD
The dense fog that hung over South Tipperary on Saturday matched the sombre mood of a shocked community as the remains of the vibrant local girl were removed from her home to the Church of The Assumption. People had come to pay their respects to the heartbroken Kennedy family all day.
Lost for words, no one could come to terms with what had happened. So many mourners attended the removal that it fell to friends and neighbours to provide traffic control at the removal of remains.
WONDERFUL SMILE
At the funeral Mass on Sunday Father Joe Flynn in his homily remembered Sarah’s wonderful smile, “Sarah will always be remembered for her pleasant outlook and her love of life. I know that her parents are heartbroken and I can see here today that she was well loved in her community but it is Sarah’s smile that I will always remember,” Fr Flynn told the packed church.
DEVASTED
The 19 year old Skeheenarinky girl was a student nurse and had been travelling to Clonmel for work experience at St Michael Psychiatric Hospital when the accident took place. Sarah, an only daughter of Michael and Mary Kennedy, who friends have described as ‘devastated’ was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballyporeen.
After the tragedy gardai closed the road until noon on Thursday for a forensic collision examination and are appealing for any witnesses to this accident to contact the gardai in Cahir on 052 7445630 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or indeed any garda station.
The Avondhu extends its heartfelt sympathy to Sarah’s parents, Michael and Mary and brothers David and Michael.
