HOTEL CLOSURE RUMOURS QUASHED
Rumours circulating that Kilcoran Lodge Hotel is to close have this week been denied by general manager, Pierce Connell.
“We are not closing, in fact things are looking up for 2009 and we have more weddings booked than last year,” he told The Avondhu.
Mr Connell admitted that the hotel had suffered as a result of the opening of the M8 motorway last July: “The passing trade is definitely down, our daily lunch trade has been adversely affected. There’s no denying that,” he said.
“We began to notice the drop off in September but we took remedial action.” The manager confirmed that this incorporated a number of elements including internal restructuring and some staff lay offs.
“The response to our Christmas parties was disappointing but that was mainly down to companies cutting back due to the economic situation.“
“However, we have plans for new innovations and I am confident for the future at Kilcoran Lodge. The ballroom, which was completely refurbished in 2008, has been attracting much favourable comment.”
Mr Connell concluded: “We are finalising the details for our annual wedding fair which takes place on Sunday, February 22. New menus and ‘early bird’ offers will be introduced in the restaurant over the coming weeks. I can see better times ahead for this hotel despite the recession.”
