MEP Sean Kelly canvasses with local candidates in Fermoy & Mitchelstown
On Friday, February 21, political enthusiasts with an interest in both local and European politics had the opportunity to have their voices heard on various issues, as MEP Sean Kelly visited Mitchelstown and Fermoy to canvas with local Fine Gael election candidates.
Doing a walk-about in each town, Sean Kelly met with voters and spoke to them about the upcoming elections, as he toured Mitchelstown with Kay Dawson and Fermoy with Phil Leahy.
Speaking before he met with people on the streets and in the shops, the MEP spoke about the importance of community spirit and he said that things like the Thursday Friendship Club in Tearmonn Ui Chaoimh are the kind of things which need to continue. It's that kind of attitude and togetherness, he said, which needs to be passed down from the older to the younger generation.
He spoke about how many of the issues in local areas would also resonate on the wider field across the EU.
While many of the public met the Fine Gael candidates with positive reactions, there were those who challenged them on different policies and actions and the canvassing gave Sean Kelly, Kay Dawson and Phil Leahy the opportuntity to meet with constituents, address their concerns and really listen to what they want from their election candidates.
