MITCHELSTOWN LEISURE CENTRE GOES TO PLANNING
Planning permission for the long awaited Mitchelstown Leisure Centre is to be submitted before Christmas, writes Brian Moore.
The proposed development at the canon’s field will be submitted to Cork County Council within the coming week and Leisure Centre chairman, Ben Lynch told The Avondhu that the pre-planning discussions with officials of the council have been concluded.
“On the advice, and with the assistance of our architects, Holohan Leisure, a number of meetings have taken place in order to minimise the issues that could prove difficult to resolve once the formal application is submitted. This process took longer than we would have wished but we hope it will pay off in the long run,” Mr Lynch said.
In addition to the provision of a range of facilities that will be available to all sports and community groups in the area, the plans include an area dedicated for use by the youth cafe group.
“The application for planning will include this space as part of the overall development but it is intended to be for the exclusive use of the youth group. We are aware of the great work being done at present and are anxious to facilitate them getting a long term base for their very worthwhile project,” Mr Lynch continued.
Model on display A model of the proposed development is currently on display at Mitchelstown Credit Union and the leisure group are anxious that members of the public should view it and provide some feedback.
“Any suggestions will be considered, bearing in mind that there is a limited sum of money available with absolutely no grant aid forthcoming from government agencies towards the capital cost of the project at the moment,” Mr Lynch concluded.
