Mitchelstown youth’s brave actions saved father from bull attack
A 16 year old Mitchelstown student has been announced the overall winner of the North Cork Garda Youth Awards for his outstanding courage and bravery that saved his father's life on the family farm having been attacked by a bull.
John O'Donoghue from Pollardstown was presented with his award by Chief Superintendent, Gerard Dillane at a function in Mallow on Wednesday of last week. Details of the harrowing attack is carried elsewhere inside this issue.
11 awards were presented in all with The Avondhu area being also represented by Matthew O'Connor from Ballyhooly. Matthew, as a 10-year-old, was struck by a car while out cycling and having battled very severe injuries, subsequently went on to captain his team to win the Creed Cup.
