NEW MANAGER FOR MITCHELSTOWN CREDIT UNION
"A sleeping giant” is how Mitchelstown Credit Union has been described by its new manager, Benny McCarthy. Mr McCarthy, born in Dungarvan to a family of nine, this week told The Avondhu that he feels the institution has tremendous potential, with a large catchment area of “genuine down to earth people,” a description fitting of the keen golfer and self confessed “mad Waterford supporter” who will apply his years of experience and expertise to his new role.
A qualified commerce graduate and chartered accountant, Mr McCarthy spent nine years as Commercial lending manager at Ulster Bank before taking over as financial director of Flancare, the property and logistics group, in Clonmel for a further nine years.
Mr McCarthy has also served for four years as a member of the Chartered Accountants Council. Mr McCarthy said he is “absolutely looking forward” to what he described as “an exciting new chapter in my life and career.”
The new manager replaces Donal Scannell who spent three years at Mitchelstown Credit Union before leaving to take up a similar position with Thurles Credit Union last December.
