SUTTONS COURT LIBRARY – THE FINAL CHAPTER
“The long awaited Mitchelstown Library to be housed on the ground floor of the Sutton’s Court complex on the Clonmel road will be open for business in the coming months,” Cllr Kevin O’Keeffe told The Avondhu this week.
“Ridge Construction has won the tender for the job. All fixtures and fittings work will be carried out in the next month or so.”
When asked if the library would be open by September, Cllr O’Keeffe commented, “Yes, work will be completed within a month of commencement.”
Mr O’Keeffe, who has long campaigned for Sutton’s Court to be used, added, “The new library will be much better for the people of Mitchelstown, there will be improved facilities and it will be more accessible for people with disabilities.”
The development at Sutton’s Court, a section of which has been proposed for social housing, has been vacant for some time and with the current economic climate, business and traders in Mitchelstown are happy to see that the building will be used.
Chairman of Mitchelstown Business Association, Eamonn O’Brien said: “We will be delighted to see a new library with adequate facilities, and more accessible to the public. We hope that the new facility will relinquish the old concept that a library just has stacks of books. It will also offer IT facilities, will be user friendly and is definitely welcome for all sectors of the community,” he told The Avondhu.
