Stars were born at Mitchelstown schools musical
Many of the Broadway or Hollywood stars will say that they started out on their local stage, basking in the limelight for the first time at their own school musical and judging by the stellar performances at the production of Greased Lightnin', the joint production by CBS Secondary and Presentation Secondary schools in Mitchelstown, there are certainly some stars in the making.
Over the past eight months, teachers Edel McEniry and Winnie Fitzgerald and the Presentation secretary who turned dance choreographer for the occasion Tracey Roche, all spent hours after school, at weekends and during the holidays, working with the 120 cast members from both schools.
The sell out shows are a testament to their hard work, as the shows were enjoyed by primary school students who came to the matinee shows and people from across the community who came along to the nightly shows.
The standing ovations after each performance could be a sneak peek of what's to come for many of the cast members, as there was a clear flair for acting, singing and performance to be seen among those who played both minor and major roles.
The show has now become not only the highlight of the year for the school, but is fast becoming another musical that the people of Mitchelstown and surrounding areas are flocking to see, with the amazing plans already in train for the 2014/15 show. So that the experience can be treasured and remembered forever, a DVD is also being made up, a €10 deposit is required and the schools can be contacted for more information.
