THOUSANDS OF EURO WORTH OF FAGS AND BOOZE STOLEN IN MITCHELSTOWN
‘In the current economic climate this could not have come at a worse time’ – that was the response from owner, Alan Reidy as raiders escaped with thousands of euro worth of cigarettes and alcohol from his SuperValu store at New Square in Mitchelstown last Monday night.
Gardai believe that the break in occurred between 10pm on Monday night and 6am on Tuesday morning.
“A ladder was stolen from Abbey Farm earlier that evening and this was used during the break in,” Inspector Tony O’Sullivan said.
It is understood that the thieves gained access to SuperValu through the rear car park.
“Garda technical units have examined the scene and we would ask the public to contact the gardai if they noticed any suspicious vehicles in the town over the last few days,” Inspector Tony O’Sullivan told The Avondhu.
Alan Reidy, of Reidy’s SuperValu said that extra security measures have now been put in place.
Gardai are also examining CCTV images and anyone with any information should contact your local garda station or the Mitchelstown gardai at 025-84833.
