Presented by ANU Productions, the National Museum of Ireland and the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht and in association with the National Archives of Ireland, ‘Pals – The Irish At Gallipoli’ returns to the atmospheric National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks due to phenomenal public.
Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys said:
“I am very pleased that my Department is in a position to support this extended run of PALS at Collins Barracks. PALS has rightly garnered rave reviews since it was first launched earlier this year. It is a unique and emotive experience, which brings audience members right to the centre of the daily lives of the young soldiers who fought in World War 1. It is only through connecting with individual experiences that we can begin to appreciate the incredible suffering these young men went through. I would encourage anyone who has not yet seen PALS to catch one of the shows throughout August.”
Raghnall Ó Floinn , Director of the National Museum said
“We are delighted to see ANU’s production of Pals – the Irish at Gallipoli – returning to the National Museum. This highly-charged performance based on the authentic experiences of those who left this very site 100 years ago has touched and moved everyone who has seen it. We look forward to welcoming new visitors to share this experience with us and to view the accompanying exhibition on the Irishmen and women who fought in the First World War.”
Following rave reviews and sell out performances, Pals - The Irish at Gallipoli will run from 4 of August until 6 September. Running Tuesday to Sunday each week, the unique production explores the untold Irish experiences of World War I. Tickets are available from www.pals-theirishatgallipoli.com priced €5.
Where are the faces laughing in the glow⨠of morning years,â¨the lost ones scattered wide? â¨Give me your hand,â¨Oh brother, let us go…
1915, Gallipoli. Amidst the heat and smell of the trenches, with No Mans Land on the horizon, the men of the newly formed 7th Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers stand shoulder to shoulder.
These are a team of rugby legends built from the strongest and bravest athletes in Ireland.
And they are about to play a deadly end-game.
At home, thousands of Irish women lend their support by taking up employment in munitions factories, supplying much-needed materials for the manufacture of bandages and other medical equipment, or preparing packages for soldiers in prisoner of war camps.
Award-winning innovators ANU Productions present a profound immersive adventure, based on the events surrounding WWI in Ireland.
Inspired by the previously untold stories of the 7th Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers who swapped the rugby field for the battlefield – PALS will give audiences a vivid glimpse into the life and death of a brotherhood of players who were wiped out in the devastating trenches and the reality of those left behind.
“ANU takes site specific, immersive theatre to a level it has never before reached in Ireland…brave, serious and superbly done, making for some of the best site specific art anywhere in the world” – Fintan O’Toole (The Irish Times)
