All of these animals are very unusual and something that does not come to our minds when we think of an ESA. however, people have different choices and these animals are proof of it.
What Benefits do an ESA Owner Has?
Being an ESA owner comes with loads of benefits and we are not talking about the benefits of having a loyal friend only. Thanks to the state, emotional support animals are now legally accepted and policies have been made to protect the rights of these animals as well as their owners.
Below are some benefits that an ESA has and enjoys.
Free Housing Benefits
According to the Fair Housing Act (FHA), you enjoy the benefit of living with your emotional support animal without paying any pet fee. Since an emotional support animal is not considered a pet, these pet policies and charges do not apply to them.
Moreover, your landlord cannot bound you to certain animals, breeds, size or weight. You can live with your animal freely and without any extra charges.
Free Travelling Benefits
Besides free living, you are also eligible to travel for free. As per The Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA), an airline is bound by law to allow you to travel with your emotional support animal. However, they do ask you to inform them at least 48 hours before the flight. Similar to your landlord, the airline is also not allowed to put any limitations on the type and breed of your ESA.
Still, we suggest that you take proper and complete information about the airline’s policies to avoid any last-minute issues.
Enjoy Equal Rights
While this benefit is more suited to service and assistance animals but as an emotional support animal owner, you can also attract queer looks and discrimination at some places. The Rehabilitation Act protects you against any such discrimination as it is illegal to prohibit a person from housing or any other activities due to his disability.
Living with your emotional support animal has loads of benefits but to do it the right way, get a valid and genuine ESA letter for housing purposes.
