Founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I. The campus occupies 190,000 m2 (47 acres), with many buildings, both old and new, ranged around large courts (known as "squares") and two playing fields.
Catholics were first admitted in 1793, prior to which only Protestants could attend.
The institution is ranked highest in Ireland in surveys of third level educational institutions.
