Birr (Biorra), Co Offaly is an old market and former garrison town dating to the 1620s.

In Emmet Square stands one of the oldest coaching inns in Ireland, dating form 1747 - Doolys Hotel. Birr also has a castle which is the oldest inhabited home in the county.
