LOCAL DELIGHT AS KILWORTH PRISON PLAN PUT ON HOLD
News that the planned construction of the new state of the art 450 place prison in Kilworth has now been put on hold by the Government was greeted by delight this week in the North Cork village.
Kilworth, which had been earmarked to replace the existing outdated Cork Prison, will now have to wait for funding to come on line after failing to secure funding in the latest capital spending programme.
Commenting on the news, Jim Nash, secretary of Kilworth Community Council said that the village was delighted that work will not now be starting, at least in the short term.
MUSIC TO THE EARS
“The news has come as music to our ears. We hope that there will never be a prison up there,” Jim Nash told The Avondhu.
