NEW HOME FOR ST. JOHNS BOXING CLUG IN FERMOY
There was good news this week for everyone associated with St John’s Amateur Boxing Club in Fermoy following confirmation that members will operate from a new premises when training resumes on next Monday, August 30.
Prior to this the club was based in the CYM&WS Hall. Society treasurer, Ken Butterworth was very helpful during their tenure and the club is anxious that this be acknowledged publicly.
In a statement released this week the club said the move to a new premises (Unit 2, Block B, Faber Castell Campus, Fermoy) was important in the context of giving boxers access to modern facilities.
The statement reads: ‘Because of our growing membership it was decided to seek out a suitable premises capable of meeting the needs of a modern boxing club. Thanks to the assistance of local businessman, Dave Ryan, we have taken up residency in a 2,400 square feet building that will, in time, be fitted out with everything a progressive boxing club needs’.
The statement goes on to recognise the steadfast support the club has received from the people of Fermoy ‘We wish to thank the people of Fermoy and especially the business sector who have given so generously since our formation in 2009. Without this support we would not have been able to survive.
We are glad to report that the club is going from strength to strength and since 2009 we’ve produced an Irish champion, this achievement has been due in no small way to the input of our excellent coaches, Timmy Flynn and Pio Duggan’.
Training for the new season starts on next Monday 30th August 30 (7 to 9pm). New members welcome, for additional information contact: Timmy Flynn 087-9595898, Teresa Flynn 086-3202295, Pio Duggan 087-7924623 or Dave Brennan 086-1209567.
