Single mother Collette McVeigh is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers. When she is arrested for her part in an aborted IRA bomb plot in London, an MI5 officer (Mac) offers her a choice: lose everything and go to prison for 25 years or return to Belfast to spy on her own family. Her brother Gerry (Gillen) is the head of an IRA cell that is still carrying out assassinations in the Belfast area. Adapted by Tom Bradby from his own 2001 novel, this outstanding thriller from Oscar®-winning director James Marsh boasts outstanding central performances from Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough as the main protagonists caught in a complex web of political intrigue, set against a deeply insightful depiction of pre- peace-process Belfast. - Edinburgh Film Festival 2012
