164-YEAR-OLD LIMESTONE USED IN FERMOY ROAD WORKS
As enhancement works continue to progress at pace on McDonagh Hill in Fermoy, The Avondhu has learned that 164 year old limestone blocks are being used to form the kerbing on the sides of the road.
“These limestone blocks were put down in 1846 as part of the famine relief scheme,” local historian, Christy Roche told The Avondhu.
“It is great to see a part of old history from Fermoy town being used,” Cllr John Murphy added.
