40 LET GO BUT SCI VERY SUPPORTIVE
Sanmina SCI, Fermoy this week confirmed, after a 30 day notice period, what staff were to be included in the expected 40 lay-offs. Management had indicated on November 5 that 40 jobs would go within thirty days, affecting office and production staff at the plant.
The Avondhu spoke with one of the staff that was let go who commented, “I am glad to be finished. Being on the dole every second week doesn’t pay the bills. I didn’t have any security at SCI as I didn’t know from one week to the next if I still had a job.”
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, continued to say that most of the people that were left go have young families, and a lot of them were upset facing into Christmas and with bills to pay.
“It isn’t easy as there isn’t a lot of work out there but I’m not picky in what I do. Even if I’m sweeping the streets, once I am being paid to work that’s all that matters. What I will say, though, is SCI have always been very supportive and they told people they would do everything they could to ensure there was no delay with social welfare,” he concluded.
