BITE MARKS AND TORN HAIR AFTER FERMOY FRACAS
A significant public altercation involving up to half a dozen young women at the Ashe Quay area of Fermoy on Saturday night last resulted in injuries including torn hair and bite marks.
The incident, which took place at around 3.20am after a disco in a local nightclub, necessitated the presence of seven gardai, who tried to dissipate the charged atmosphere.
Drink seems to have played a major part in the altercation as it is claimed the majority of those involved were intoxicated, except for one person who was a designated driver for the night. A number of females were arrested for public order offences.
It appears that the row was sparked by a heated conversation among the women who, we understand, are from the Fermoy and Mallow areas. Initial reports of assault were notified to the gardai, but these weren’t followed up by official written complaints.
Both groups were separated on a number of occasions by gardai and were given the opportunity to desist and leave the area in a peaceful manner as required by Section 8 of the Public Order Act.
However, the women involved continued to engage in further altercation. The situation was brought under control by 4.30am and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.
The Ashe Quay area would, it seems, be a high priority location for CCTV cameras, if introduced in the future in Fermoy.
