CAVANAGHS UP THE ANTE IN A BIG WAY
Not content with bankrolling the North Cork GAA football and hurling leagues to the tune of €10,000 per annum Dr Tom Cavanagh this week upped the ante considerably by putting a remarkable €40,000 sponsorship deal together for the forthcoming season.
In a novel departure Dr. Cavanagh (through his business Cavanagh’s of Fermoy) is making two Ford cars available to the football and hurling winners of the leagues that bear his name.
One of the cars will go to the 3 clubs who emerge victorious in the football leagues (there are 3 football leagues, divisions 1, 2 and 3) and the other car will go to the hurling equivalent (again 3 divisions). These cars can then be raffled by the clubs concerned to raise funds.
Speaking about the new sponsorship arrangement, dealer principal at Cavanagh’s of Fermoy, Mr Sean Barry said it was a great opportunity for clubs to raise much needed funds while at the same time raising the profile of the leagues.
“This sponsorship deal amounts to approximately €40,000 and it’s now over to the clubs to go all out in their efforts to win the leagues, this once again demonstrates the commitment Cavanagh’s of Fermoy have towards promoting Gaelic games in our area.
"As people will know, Dr Cavanagh has taken a keen interest in raising the profile of the football and hurling leagues and this is further proof of his determination to make the leagues prestigious competitions in their own right,” Mr Barry said.
