CHELSEA LEGENDS ARE COMING TO FERMOY
Football fans of all teams have been invited to what promises to be a fascinating evening with Chelsea legends Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris and Bobby Tambling.
The distinguished pair are the guests of the Fermoy Chelsea Supporters Club who are hosting an evening with their club greats in Kerin’s Bar on Wednesday next, March 25 at 8pm.
Bobby Tambling, who once managed Cork City and played for a host of other League of Ireland clubs, is Chelsea’s all-time top goal scorer.
The English striker scored an impressive 164 goals in 302 games for the London club, and won the League Cup in his time with ‘the pensioners.’ Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris is renowned as one of the toughest defenders to have played the sport, having played at the back for Chelsea for almost 20 years between 1961 and 1980.
Also a member of the 1970 League Cup winning side, Harris was club captain when the Stamford Bridge outfit won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1971. He still holds the record for appearances for Chelsea, appearing 795 times for the club in all competitions.
The occasion will no doubt provide Chopper with an opportunity to warm up for his world record breaking attempt – the former defender hopes to set a new record for the most autographs signed in a year and his attempt begins this April.
Paul Kavanagh of the Fermoy Chelsea Supporters Club said the group are thrilled to have the pair come to the town and added that all football fans are invited to this very special occasion.
