CLLR WANTS DECISION TO CLOSE FERMOY ARMY RESERVE HQ RESCINDED
Councillor John Murphy is to seek support from his town council colleagues in Fermoy, in calling on Defence Minister Alan Shatter to rescind the decision to move the Fermoy army reserve headquarters to Mallow.
The controversial decision has been roundly criticised by local members of the army reserve who say training and other facilities are far better in Fermoy than in Mallow. They’re critical too of the longer distance to travel to train and the extra expense it will entail.
Councillors Noel McCarthy and Tadhg O’Donovan raised the matter previously at northern area committee and county council and town council levels respectively, calling on Minister Shatter to explain how he could justify the move, given the far superior facilities that exist at the Fermoy camp.
