COUNCILLORS TO CHALLENGE BRADFORD
While the battle for the leadership of Fine Gael was underway this week another contest was kicking off in Cork East, writes Brian Moore.
Newly elected Fermoy town mayor, Cllr Pa O’Driscoll has his sights set on the next prize when he announced that he would be contesting the Fine Gael party’s selection convention in the Cork East constituency. Cllr Tom Barry has also thrown his hat into the ring and says it’s time for a change in the constituency.
“I want to run for this constituency and the people here. Paul Bradford has done a lot of good work for the area but he has failed to pass the post at the last two elections, it is now time for another candidate to run,” Cllr Barry said.
Cllr O’Driscoll, on the other hand, would like to see Senator Bradford included on a three man ticket alongside himself and sitting TD, David Stanton.
“I want to contest the next election because I have something to offer the people of this constituency. The next election will be all about politics and credibility and as a member of the generation who will have to bear the brunt of the economic collapse. I am only too aware of the hardship that people are facing every day,” Cllr O’Driscoll said.
