FEARS GROW OVER 4HOME JOBS
Twenty staff at the Reox controlled 4Home stores in Fermoy and Mitchelstown are this week living with the fear that their jobs are on the line.
After the closure of six stores nationwide and the most recent job losses at the store in Ballincollig, many feel that it is only a matter of time before the axe falls on Fermoy or Mitchelstown, or indeed, both.
One Mitchelstown employee who does not wish to be identified is worried for his future.
“There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment and, to tell the truth, I would not be surprised if they decided to close the store. After that I don’t know what to do, there are not a lot of other jobs in the area,” he said.
In another twist, Dairygold are set to re-acquire parts of Reox Holdings, which the company spun off into a separate company three years ago.
A spokesperson for Reox said that the company was engaged in discussions with Dairygold for the sale of some of the 4Home Stores in Munster. The move by Dairygold has increased the fear of job losses among the 20 employees in Mitchelstown and Fermoy.
A spokesman for Reox would not confirm job losses at Mitchelstown and Fermoy but said, “Management will make decisions on the longer-term viability of the stores on a case-by-case basis. The recession has resulted in significantly lower consumer confidence and reduced discretionary spend.”
