FERMOY WOMAN ‘FEARS FOR CHILDREN’S SAFETY’
A young woman who resides in Rathcarrig Estate, on Pyke Road, Fermoy alleges that her family has been bullied and terrorized by the next door neighbour for the past eight months, to the point where she says that she fears for her children’s and her own safety.
Allegedly the neighbour’s children are spitting at her and her children, giving them the finger, making threatening gestures and verbally abusing them on a daily basis. It is a very delicate situation and the woman who has been allegedly subjected to this ongoing abuse has filed a report with the gardai and also asked for a transfer out of the estate from the Housing Department in Cork County Council.
The woman in question claims that the situation started spiralling out of control eight months ago when the neighbour’s children threw a can of Coke at her door. She says that she has tried to address the situation, but things have only got worse by the day. The woman told The Avondhu that her children are frightened and they can’t play freely around the house.
In an effort to bring some calmness and normality into her life she asked her children’s father to build a fence around the premises for their safety. The woman says that she has now received a letter from Cork County Council requesting that the fence be removed or else she would be asked to vacate the house within seven days.
The woman further claims that her car has been vandalized and says that their father, from whom she is separated, if the environment around them does not improve significantly, could take her children away from her.
When contacted by The Avondhu a garda spokesperson said the matter was being investigated. A Cork County Council representative confirmed that efforts are being made to help the family with their predicament.
