FURTHER MAJOR DEVELOPMENT PLANNED FOR FERMOY
The new Mayor of Fermoy, Tadhg O’Donovan has confirmed to The Avondhu that Fermoy Town Council have received yet another major planning application for the town this past Tuesday, July 1st, for the old Barry’s Yard site at Courthouse Road.
This new application, which has been lodged by Spinning Wheel Developments Ltd, is on a site immediately adjacent to two other major proposed developments – one being the former mart site with due to be development by the Shipton Group as well as redevelopment of the site of the old Grandon’s Garage by Ballyjamesduff Properties.
The development is to consist of the construction of a mixed use retail, office and residential development incorporating 8 retail units (total ground floor area 847 sqm), 8 office units (total ground area 1,624 sqm), 17 apartments, car parking as well as associated site works and landscaping.
Commenting to The Avondhu, the Fermoy Mayor commented, “I warmly welcome the development and as one who had been advocate of a bypass for the town for over 20 years, with the infrastructure now in place, this is one of the primary reasons why the 3 proposed developments are looking to go ahead. This indicates an unprecedented investment in the retail sector in Fermoy”.
He concluded, “We are now at a crossroads in Fermoy and can either except expansion or stagnate and go into decline. These are very exciting times for the town, opportunities are arising through the proposed massive investment and this is a challenge to all concerned".
"This includes our planners, to ensure that as a community, we realise our potential for future generations of townspeople in Fermoy”.
