Fermoy Musical Society to take a trip down memory lane
A trip down memory lane is always enjoyable, but when it's Fermoy Musical Society leading the walk back through its 90-year existence, then you know it's going to be special.
The society felt such an exhibition would be a very fitting way to mark its 90th anniversary. Members have gathered together old photographs, programmes, editorial clips and other memorabilia from down through the years. The exhibition will have its official opening at Fermoy Library on Saturday, May 10th at 3pm and will then run until Wednesday, May 21st.
The society has staged a huge number of shows in its time, including all the best loved ones, like Show Boat, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Carousel, South Pacific and Calamity Jane.
Such a longstanding tradition of musical theatre contributed hugely to the social fabric of Fermoy, entertaining successive audiences, certainly, but more than that - providing a platform for young musical talent, engendering community spirit and voluntary effort and forging friendships that have endured for generations.
Old photographs of former cast members and names and information listed in programme notes, apart from making for a nostalgic look back, show how much the productions have evolved over the years. This forthcoming exhibition shows the extent to which Fermoy Musical Society has contributed to musical entertainment in the town and environs for nine decades.
