Fermoy and District Active Retirement Association news
There was great excitement last Sunday night, April 25 when over 55 active retirement members, well wishers and a number of John's friends travelled to Cork City Hall to support our very popular Mr John O'Mahoney who had been chosen to represent Fermoy, Mitchelstown and surrounding areas in the over 60's talent competition. The final of which will be staged in Cork Opera House.
The show was opened by Cork's Lady Mayoress, who with her entourage attended the nights semi-final. It was a wonderful night of entertainment, with each contestant giving of their very best in enjoyment and talent. As they say 'the night flew' but eventually the choices had to be made, it was just as anxious a time for the audience as it was for the contestants.
We had to wait until the second half for John to compete and it was a tough one, but true to form our John O'Mahoney proved the wait was worth it. He 'raised the roof' with his rendering of 'When you were Sweet Sixteen' to the sound of appreciative applause as he walked off the stage.
Decision time
At last decision time arrived, but the wait was long!! Rapturous applause.... John had been chosen to participate in the final to be held in the Cork Opera House. Another great night out in the pipeline. We wish John every success on the night but to have achieved such recognition for an inate personal talent, must indeed be very satisfying.
Trip to Dungarvan
We attended a very enjoyable night held by Dungarvan soroptimists last weekend, featuring the 'Carmarthen symphonic wind band, plus 'Just Good Friends' choir from Wales. We had two great hours of musical entertainment followed by an impromptu of the Welsh band members joining with Irish musicians in a melange of Irish and Welsh ballads, it was a great night. we travelled by coach, whish is a very convenient way to travel, as it allows us to enjoy our outings, stress free.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 7th at 2.30pm in the youth and community centre. Mr Pat Morrissey will be our guest for the afternoon who will enlighten and explain the progress and services of the Fermoy Credit Union. Progress means change and we need to be aware of what is going on in our interest. It will prove to be a very informative afternoon.
