IKEA WOULD BE GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR MITCHELSTOWN
The Swedish retail giant IKEA is looking for a location to set up its second Irish store after the success of its store IKEA in Dublin and while Mallow has been mentioned, Mitchelstown would also be seen as the perfect location.
“Mitchelstown would be an ideal location for IKEA with the town’s position and full motorway access,” chairman of the MBA, Eamonn O’Brien told The Avondhu this week.
“With the Aldi distribution centre almost ready, IKEA would be a very welcome addition,” Mr O’Brien said. It is understood the company is in the process of identifying possible sites in the Munster area.
“With the success of the Ballymun store, IKEA has been identifying sites around Ireland for potential stores,” a statement from IKEA said this week.
However, the spokesperson would not reveal any details as to which locations are being examined.
“We have the motorway in place, we have a large land bank around the town that would be suitable for IKEA and Mitchelstown as a location is second to none. We are not in a flood plain and IKEA would be welcomed with open arms to Mitchelstown,” Mr O’Brien said.
“We would hope to get an opportunity to showcase Mitchelstown to IKEA and would hope that they will take a good look at the enormous potential the town has to offer before they make their decision,” the MBA chairman said.
