INSURANCE COMPANY TO CLOSE FERMOY OFFICE
FBD Insurance has confirmed that it is to close its Fermoy branch office, writes Joe Leogue. No permanent staff redundancies will occur as a result of the closure, with the two permanent employees transferred to Midleton.
“FBD offices in Fermoy and Middleton are merging and in future the area will be serviced from the Midleton office,” a statement from the company to The Avondhu read.
“The change comes about as a result of reduced customer demand for traditional office based services and increased customer preference for purchasing standard personal insurance cover directly by phone or through the internet.
Well over 70% of personal insurance is now bought over the phone and internet. Customers rarely need to visit the offices of their insurers and FBD is adapting to these changes.
We will be communicating with customers by letter to inform them of the decision, contact points and so on.
The Fermoy office has two permanent staff members, and they will now be transferring to the Midleton base, bringing their knowledge and expertise. Area manager Michael O’Shea will continue to visit farms and businesses as required and provide specialist services for non-standard issues.
Matters such as renewals, quotes and standard claims are normally dealt with by phone.
