KILWORTH CALLS FOR TURNAROUND OF POST OFFICE CLOSURE
Kilworth Community Council chairman, Jim Nash is calling on An Post to reconsider its decision to close the community post office in the village, writes Brian Moore.
“This week I have heard that An Post is also set to close the post office in Bansha as well, I don’t think they realize just how important a local post office is to a rural community.
The sense of isolation that many people now fear in our area is growing as public facilities, which were once seen an important part of the community, are now no longer in place. An Post needs to reconsider its decision to close the post office in Kilworth urgently,” Mr Nash told The Avondhu.
Representing the company stance on the issue, the chief executive of An Post, Donal Connell told the members of the Kilworth Community Council,” An Post took the decision to close Kilworth Post Office based on a number of factors which were outlined to the members of the community council.
Nothing emerged at the meeting to alter the initial decision and, having taken all matters into account, in particular the relatively low level of business at Kilworth Post Office and the close proximity of post offices in Fermoy, Glanworth, and Mitchelstown, together with a postal agency in Araglin, the company believes these offices cater adequately for our customers’ requirements and has decided it does not have an ongoing requirement for a post office in Kilworth.”
