LARGE SCALE RAVE PARTY INVESTIGATED IN KILDORRERY
It is reported that approximately 300 cars from North Cork and the general area gathered last weekend on a private field in the Kildorrery area for a rave party. A number of local residents called Fermoy Gardai with reports of anti social behaviour and dangerous driving involving ‘hundreds of rally drivers’. The large scale rave is believed to have taken place in the Ballyvisteen/Quitrent area of Kildorrery, around midnight on Saturday, July 19.
However, one resident in the Ballyvisteen area ‘guaranteed’ that even if something did take place it was somewhere in the distance. “I could hear music but it was by no means in Ballyvisteen or the immediate surroundings,” he said. The event is believed to have benefited from entertainment (music and generators were reported).
Garda cars were dispatched to the road leading to the site of the rave and they set up checkpoints which resulted in some cars being turned back. Searches for drugs were conducted on a number of cars by the Fermoy drug unit. One driver was investigated under Section 15 – possession of drugs for sale or supply. Gardai have powers under the Misuse of Drugs Act and the Road Traffic Act to stop people from attending illegal events.
Residents reported donuts (tyre marks) on the road to the event and one local confirmed that he saw about 10 to 12 souped-up cars ‘in a line in the area’ around 10pm on Saturday night.
Another source told The Avondhu: “There are a lot of hot patches there all the time,” but claimed he didn’t pay any attention to them as there isn’t usually any trouble.
Gardai are currently endeavouring to determine how the event was organised and they are asking for anyone with information to please contact Fermoy garda station at (025) 82100.
