LISMORE COUNCILLORS APLOGISE OVER POLITICAL SPAT
The April meeting of the Lismore Town Council started with an apology issued by the town mayor, Peter Ahearne and Cllr David Whelan. The mayor and Cllr. Whelan apologised to the other councillors, the people of Lismore and to the members of the media who were present at the last official meeting.
The apology, which took centre stage on an otherwise very quiet night, was made in connection with a verbal altercation that occurred between the mayor and Cllr. Whelan towards the end of the March council meeting, when Cllr David Whelan asked the mayor to explain why he was still registered on the council website as a Fianna Fail party member. (Mayor Peter Ahearne resigned from the party two years ago).
A sometimes unpleasant verbal altercation had ensued as a result of this enquiry, ending the previous meeting on a sour note.
