MAJOR DRUGS BUST
Gardai made a significant drugs capture with estimated street value of €210,000 on Thursday, April 3, in areas of Fermoy and Mitchelstown.
According to Inspector Tony O’Sullivan of Fermoy garda station, “a white van was stopped by gardai at Strawhall, Fermoy around 7.30pm on Thursday. The van was searched and 1kg of cocaine with a street value of €70,000 was discovered”.
As a follow-up operation, gardai obtained a warrant to search a flat in Mitchelstown later that night where a further 2kg of cocaine were found with an estimated street value of €140,000. A man named as John Walsh, was arrested in connection with the crime. He is in his early forties, and although originally from Cork city, he now resides in Trieneragh, Duagh, Co. Kerry.
Mr. Walsh was arrested and detained under Section II of the Drug Trafficking Act and taken to the Fermoy garda station. He appeared in a special sitting of the Fermoy District Court on Saturday, April 5, when he was charged with the crime.
A file is in the process of being prepared for the DPP. Gardai are satisfied with the success of the operation, which was carried out as part of ‘Operation Anvil’.
